BELOW: This photo was taken from Mullach Buidhe. Goat Fell ridge is on the right; Brodick Bay is to the right side of the picture between the ridge and the body of land.

The Liberator approached from the right side of the picture across the water from where it took off.

BELOW: Brodick Bay in the centre. Holy Island in centre of picture sticking up out of the water. Straight back from that on the mainland is Ayr, RAF Heathfield, Prestwick from where AM261 took off.

This picture was taken from Mullach Buidhe, just above the crash site showing the path of AM261. The ridge to Goatfell is centre. From RAF Heathfield to the crash site is 25 miles. Speculation by today's experts suggest that the aircraft took the wrong track due to a faulty compass or Pilot error, and would not have had enough height to clear the mountains of Arran which are about 2900 feet.
